Your wedding day is something that you’ve been looking forward to and planning for a long time. You’ve spent countless hours pouring over magazines and Pinterest, comparing vendors and picking out the perfect decor. After all that planning, your wedding day can feel like it is over in a blink of an eye. It’s easy to get swept up in the whirlwind of events on your big day and feel rushed. You’ve worked so hard, you and your fiance deserve to be relaxed and be able to enjoy every moment of the day. Which is why we recommend choosing to do a First Look.
WHAT IS A FIRST LOOK?
So what is it exactly? It’s a chance for you and your partner to see each other before the ceremony in your wedding outfits and it is also a chance for you to do your wedding portraits together before the ceremony.
We’ve compiled a list of our favorite reasons why you and your fiance should consider doing a first look.
IT’S A SPECIAL MOMENT
It is a chance for you and your fiance to take a second for just the two of you without everyone vying for your attention. You can focus on being together and about to go through a huge life experience. It is an intimate moment that you can look back on without the crowds and the pressure of the day and just enjoy being present together in the moment.
LESS PRESSURE
Photographers love first looks because not only is the couple more relaxed throughout the entire day, but it shows in the photos too. When you try to cram all the shots of you and your partner, your bridal party and your family into cocktail hour, it can feel rushed and stressful. There’s nothing worse than feeling like everyone is waiting for you to finish your photos or feeling like you’re dying to get some food because you haven’t eaten in a few hours.
MORE TIME WITH YOUR GUESTS
First Looks are a great way to capture all the portraits ahead of time. Instead of cramming everything in at cocktail hour, you and your partner can mingle with your guests and spend more time enjoying your party. It is your day after all, make sure that you plan enough time to enjoy it all!
Ultimately the day is about you and your fiance so you should do what is important to you. If you decide to stick with tradition and take your portraits during cocktail hour, make sure you know what shots are the most important to you and get those first. Check in with your photographer ahead of time and let them know the shots that you absolutely can’t live without and make sure they know your timeline.
