Giant blooms, redwood trees, sunshine, and costumes- this engagement session had it all! Colleen & Brian had such a fun session at the UC Berkeley Botanical gardens and Piedmont Park over the weekend.
For the first half of their session, we were able to photograph them in the lush gardens and under the tall trees of the botanical gardens. After their session was rescheduled due to the rainstorms, this one really made up for it by having a crazy amount of blooms and greenery! This year’s Spring has been really gorgeous as soon as the rains stopped.
The second half of their session was really fun too because they brought a few costumes. For those of you that don’t know my story, I am a big theatre person and I LOVE costumes and whimsy! So when Colleen and Brian pulled out Star Wars costumes, I was so there for it! They are Star Wars fans and even went as Rey & Kylo Ren for Halloween. They are both professors and last Halloween, Colleen even stopped by Brian’s class while the two of them were dressed in costume and gave a guest lecture!
Since the Botanical Gardens close long before Golden Hour (the 2 hours before and during sunset), we decided to swing by Piedmont Park to get a few additional shots in the glowy light. We love this spot because there is so much to work with at this location. There is an epic entrance with a fountain, arch, and tulips and then further into the park, there are gorgeous paths with plants and trees everywhere.
Science plays a big role in their lives and they met one another through a fellowship. Since Brian attended UC Berkeley in undergrad, the gardens were a great fit for the two of them and a nod to his school. It was also a great spot for their engagement photos since they will be married at the Lawrence Hall of Science at UCB later this year! We’re so happy for them and are even more excited for their wedding later this year!
